The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949)
Concept piece of The Headless Horseman.

The artwork measures 7.5" x 9.5". In this concept piece, Mary Blair proves again that she not only has a knack for imagining brilliant characters, but she can also breathe life into the settings that surround them. In the center we see The Headless Horseman and his spectral steed in their iconic pose, the horse up on his back hooves, his front hooves cutting violently through the air, while The Horseman holds a glowing, menacing sphere above him. Mary leads the viewer’s eye to the fear inspiring duo by putting them at the opposite end of a long tunnel and bathing them in a pool of soft light. Even the bridge and tunnel, a seemingly unthreatening piece of wholesome countryside imagery, is made to look ominous by Mary’s dark color choices, which are then contrasted by the soft pink highlights she adds to give a sense of moonlight. This is another case of Mary Blair inspiring the entire world in which a classic Disney film lived and played.

There is evidence of pin holes towards the extremes of each corner, which can be easily matted out.
As pinning up artwork for evaluation was often part of the creative process, this is fairly common for this type of work..

The size of the image is 1.25" h x 1.25" w.
